Composition Lessons
Overview
Composition lessons help students develop techniques and learn counterpoint skills. Application required. Please contact kevin@uremusic.com.
An application is required for admission to The Composers Studio. Admission decisions are sent the last week of every month, and you may be given the option of getting placed on a waiting list.
Composition lessons are uniquely tailored to each individual composer, and lessons are conducted via Zoom. In addition to lessons, students receive free copies of the latest editions from The Composing Series.
Styles and Levels Accepted
Any style of music and all levels are accepted, but students must have a basic ability to notate their musical ideas. Kevin Ure does not provide instruction for electronic music unless a notated score accompanies the music. He believes that to properly edit a musical work and develop as a composer, the ability to notate ideas is essential.
Lesson Length
Each lesson is 40 minutes in length. Total lesson time is 55 minutes, with time set aside before and after your lesson to review and prepare.
The first meeting varies per student and is generally shorter to provide time to meet and set up the student's studio. The first meeting is not charged in order to answer questions and make sure lessons are a good fit.
